Accra, Oct 27, (dpa/GNA) - The daughter of an imprisoned Vietnamese blogger has called for her mother's release in a letter addressed to US First Lady Melania Trump ahead of a presidential visit to Vietnam in November, her grandmother told dpa Friday.

Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh, also known as Mother Mushroom, was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in June on anti-state charges having been arrested last year.

Her mother Nguyen Thi Tuyet Lan, 61, said that Nguyen Bao Nguyen, Quynh's 10-year-old daughter who turns 11 on Saturday, had decided to write the letter herself.

"She asked me if she could write a letter to her (Trump) to ask for help, I said I don't know but let's do what we can," said Lan.

Quynh, 38, won the US State Department's 2017 International Woman of Courage Award and if free, she would have been handed the award by the first lady.

The letter, which has been posted on Facebook, implored the first lady to call for her mother's release during the Trumps' visit to Vietnam in November.

"We beg of you to help us to be reunited because I know my mother did nothing wrong, as I know you did award her with the International Women of Courage prize for which my mother and my family would like to thank you once again," wrote Bao, according to the post on Lan's Facebook page.

Quynh's health condition has worsened, Lan said having visited her daughter in prison on Monday.

"She looks very weak and very pale as she is sick from vitamin deficiency but was not allowed to receive medication from me," she said.
