The Central Regional Police has officially charged the 17-year-old boy for allegedly defiling a 4-year-old girl.

This follows a search and arrest exercise in the community by the police on Wednesday night and Thursday dawn.

The suspect who is known as Kwabena had absconded after the alleged defilement became public.

The police say, they have the medical report from the St Francis Xavier Hospital signed by a doctor which testifies to the defilement.

The manhunt for the teen came after the regional police commander summoned the Assin Fosu Divisional Police Commander, DOVSU coordinator and the Department of Gender head for a meeting Thursday.

The parents of the victim had expressed frustration in their fight for justice after chief was reported to have said, the gods have ruled the suspect innocent.

The police appeared to be pussyfooting over the incident when it was reported by the parents. Police in Assin Fosu have failed to pick up the suspect more than a week after the parents lodged a complaint.

A Joy News report into the alleged incident has thrown public attention to the girl's condition.

Since the media report, the state has revived it's interest in the matter. The Central Regional Commander of the Police Service summoned the Divisional Commander of Assin Fosu, Chief Superintendent Henry Bacho.

The Gender and Social Protection Ministry has also been asked to intervene and get justice for the child.

According to Joy News’ Central regional correspondent Richard Kwadwo Nyarko, the Regional Commander has also charged the lead investigator for failure to inform his superiors about the case.
