Kate Gyamfua, former deputy national women’s organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on political parties to put a stop to electoral violence.

According to her, such barbaric behaviour must have no space within the body politics of Ghana, especially in Ghana’s democratic dispensation.

Ms Kate Gyamfua, who is aspiring to become the party’s national women’s organizer, stated this when addressing a forum at Suhum in the Eastern Region over the weekend. The occasion was a health walk and mini rally organised by the Loyal Ladies.

She emphasized that no amount of provocation during electioneering campaigns should result in physical assaults, with its resultant murder or maiming.

The forum was to commemorate a year's anniversary of the Loyal Ladies who were brutalized by some hoodlums of then ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Suhum during the 2016 electioneering campaign to for the then NPP flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the parliamentary candidate of the Suhum Constituency.

About 16 members of the group, who were manhandled, were presented with citations for the trauma they went through and yet continued to campaign for the party to eventually win the elections.

Madam Kate Gyamfua, who was joined by Lawyer Nana Boakye aka Nana B, Deputy Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS) and musician Lucky Mensah, among others, also congratulated the ladies on their hard work during the campaign period and urged them to surge on.

The president of the group, Perpetual Lomokie Akwada, told DAILY GUIDE that the then governing NDC supporters who on October 11, 2016 assaulted the Loyal Ladies members during a house-to-house campaign, left several of them traumatized.

According to her, to sensitize the public on the need to eschew such acts of barbarity in the body politic of Ghana, the ladies held a walk and mini rally under the theme, “Creating Awareness on Election Violence and Its Effect on the Ghanaian Society.”

Ms Perpetual Lomokie Akwada pleaded with young people not to allow themselves to be used as tools of violence during electioneering periods and other occasions.
