PLANS ARE in the pipeline for the construction of a modern toilet facility and drainage systems across the Yelewa Zongo in the Subin Constituency in the Kumasi Metropolis.

The positive move is one of the grand strategies of the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, to upgrade the deprived Zongo area.

Making the announcement, Eugene Boakye Antwi, the NPP Subin Constituency Member of Parliament (MP), stated that the Zongo areas would be uplifted very soon.

According to him, the Zongos have been deprived for quite a long time and it is about time some serious works are done towards the growth of the Zongo communities.

He was speaking during a durbar on Sunday to welcome six Muslims from the Subin Constituency, whom he sponsored to travel to Mecca to perform Hajj, this year.

Held at Yelewa Zongo, the grand durbar was graced by top personalities including the Ashanti Regional Zongo Chief, Sultan Umar Farouk Saeed and Sheikh Abdul Mumin, Ashanti Regional Chief Imam.

Hon. Boakye Antwi, who is also the deputy minister for Works and Housing, said the NPP administration has set up the Zongo Development Fund and the Ministry of Inner City and Zongo Development Ministry to help expedite the development of the Zongos in the country.

Mr Boakye Antwi therefore urged Zongo residents to come together and present their pressing needs to the aforementioned agencies to help address them quickly.

The Ashanti Regional Zongo Chief, Sultan Umar Farouk Saed, heaped praises on Mr Boakye Antwi for single-handedly sponsoring six Muslims to Mecca for the Hajj.

He said more often than not, politicians usually fail to honour their promises after winning power but Mr Boakye Antwi has shown that he is a truthful and upright person so he should keep it up.

Sheikh Abdul Mumin Haroun, the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, urged the Mecca returnees to exhibit positive traits in their dealings, adding “you should also pray for the Subin MP because he is a good man”.
