Agric Minister To Embark On 10 Day Official Visit To Israel

The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto will leave Accra on Tuesday, the 17th of October, for a 10 day official visit to Israel

The visit is at the invitation of the Government of Israel through Agritop Limited, an Israeli business firm specializing in greenhouse technology.

The visit also forms part of efforts to deepen bilateral ties between the two countries, particularly in the areas of agriculture and agri- business.

Whilst in Israel, the Honourable Minister will embark on visits to Kibbutzs, irrigation and other sites to familiarize himself with their activities whilst also engaging with the Israeli business community to attract investment into Ghana.

Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto will also examine the Israeli Greenhouse Technology potentials, explore opportunities available under the Student Exchange Programme, and also pay a visit to Seed Production Companies as well as Israeli Out-growers Cooperatives.

He will also present to the Israeli authorities the government's flagship Planting for Food and Jobs(PFJ) policy.

The Israeli government has expressed interest in partnering government's efforts to revamp Ghana's ailing Agriculture, especially in the areas of Agro-processing, Greenhouse and irrigation development.

Early this year, the Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, together with some investors, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Food and Agriculture to explore possibilities of Israeli businessmen investing in Ghana's agricultural sector.

The Minister is due back in Ghana on Friday October, 27.
