Asubrofour (B/A), June 25, GNA - Mr John Asamani, an environmental health officer in-charge of Tanoso sub-district in the Techiman municipality, has asked people of Asubrofour, Tanoso and Tadieso communities to clear weedy areas for the prevention of malaria. He called on people to help check the breeding of mosquitoes, which are the direct causes of malaria.

Mr Asamani was addressing the chiefs, unit committees, assembly members and opinion leaders on environmental issues, especially on food hygiene and malaria control at separate functions, he asked them to adopt the use of wire net to seal their doors and windows to sleep mosquitoes nets to prevent malaria. He told the people in the community, especially women to observe environmental cleanliness in the discharge of their daily chores. He stressed the need for the community to adopt pragmatic measures that would cut down the breeding of mosquitoes such as avoiding stagnant water, keeping the environment clean and removing empty tins for appropriate sewage disposal.

Mr Collins Diyor, Assemblyman for Asubrofour, hinted that the community had been selected to benefit from the construction of borehole under the Community Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) programme and appealed to the people to meet their share contribution of 2.5 million cedis towards the provision of the project.

Nana Kwadwo Gaba, Chief of Asubrofour commended the efforts of the environmental health officer for sensitising the community on environmental health needs and suggested the need for the health officers to be regular at the zone to keep the people abreast with health programmes.
