The Police Administration has begun investigations into claims by an ex-armed robber-turned-pastor that some politicians and lawyers sponsor robbery attacks in the country.

Agya Yaw Yeboah has alleged that most of the guns used for robbery operations are supplied to gang leaders by respected people in the society.

He said these people are given their share at the end of a successful robbery attack.

Director of Police Public Affairs, DSP Sheila Kesse Abayie Buckman said the police monitored the revelation by the reformed armed robber and will be interrogating him in the coming days.

In an interview with Kofi TV, Mr Yaw Yeboah said he has been in it and has deep knowledge that there are some bigwigs in government who have strong links with armed robbers and supply them with weapons.

He said even some prominent 'Alahajis' rent the weapons to the robbers adding, they all receive their share of the booty after a successful operation.

According to him, even lawyers get their shares because when the armed robbers are arrested someone will get them released.

He said he is aware his revelation will prompt the Police to invite him to come and give them evidence, but having left the shores of the country, he said he has lost touch with some of the robbers.

But the Police said they have “commenced investigations into the allegations and are in the process of inviting, Agya Yaw Yeboah to assist in investigations.”

Last week, the new Greater Accra Regional Police Commander hinted he will not be compromised in his objective to clamp down on armed robbers and land guards in the Region.

DCOP Alex Mensah said he will restore sanity in the country's capital, by ensuring that incidents of robbery attacks are brought to an end.

“My main objective is to make Accra safe and ensure that we reduce crime to the barest minimum through the legal means,” he said.
