The teacher at the centre of the bizarre blood-licking incident at the Mother Mary's Preparatory School at South Odorkor in Accra has been arrested by the Police.

Also arrested for questioning is the headmaster of the school, Mr J.N Wussah who has been granted self-cognizance bail.

Coincidentally, the 10 euros and 16,000 out of the 28,000, whose loss led to the blood-licking ritual, were found last Saturday in one of the classrooms by a pupil of the school and handed over to the police on Tuesday.

The incident in which a French teacher at the school, Mr Yao Yikuboukou, cut his own flesh, extracted blood from the wound and subjected his pupils to an alleged trial by ordeal, attracted angry parents and guardians to the school.

A visit to the school at 9.30 a.m on Tuesday, normal classes were in progress and the director of the school, Lt Col Stephen Azumah (retd) and his wife, Mercy, a retired assistant director of the GES, in charge of affairs.

“ We took the necessary action and reported it to the appropriate authorities,”

The acting Director of the GES Micheal Nsowah reacting to the incident said the GES would sanction schools that flout its rules.

He said a team of investigators has been dispatched to investigate the incident.

Mr Nsowah said the issue bordered on criminality and therefore the police must be allowed to conduct an investigation to find out the truth or otherwise.

He stated categorically that apart from the fear of the pupils contracting HIV/AIDS, the school was also not a place for anybody to practice vodooism to invoke any covenant.
