SEP 26, 2017 LISTEN

The caretaker of New Awoshie Traditional Area, Mr. Thomas Nii Amarlai Addo has appealed to government to improve the road network in the area. The caretaker described the roads in the area as deplorable and said erosions have virtually turned them into manholes, valleys, and wells.

The man said this situation has rendered the roads not motorable, making life difficult for the people. Mr. Amarlai made these remarks when he spoke to a journalist from JCD in a close up interview at his palace recently.

He continued by saying that during heavy rains, drivers can badly identify the deep manholes on the roads and fall into them whilst other vehicles get stuck at various parts of the community because of the bad roads.

Some residents who spoke on anonymity expressed worry about the fact that when there is fire or someone has to be rushed to a health facility, it becomes very difficult because of the nature of the roads.

The caretaker who happens to be the son of the late chief of the area added that transportation is another problem which the people have to contend with because of the bad roads. According to him, people have to wait for long hours just to get a bus to work. For those who cannot wait that long have to make it on foot to get transport at the nearby places to get transport to their work places.

Mr. Amarlai however described the situation as terrible and called on the government to intervene in order to help safe the situation.

According to him, the traditional authorities in the area have done their best by providing excellent layouts for government to construct the roads but for many years now, nothing has been done about it.

He said it is now the turn of government to do its part by constructing the roads for them since they have completed their part of the bargain.

He disclosed that he and his elders have began consultations with Gbawe family, who are the overlords of New Awoshie land to enable them mobilize resources from members of the community to construct gutters infront of every home.

He said the project is geared towards providing relieve for the people at a time when goverment has not yet developed the needed infrastructure for the community.

Finally, Mr. Amarlai told traditional leaders to initiate development activities in their communities to provide the basic infrastructure for the people. He said this will help relieve the them and make lives more comfortable for them.

Again, he told the reporter that chiefs are the leaders in their various communities so they must have a vision to lead the people. According to him, a chief who does not have a vision would not be helping his people and cannot leave a legacy for them.
