SEP 26, 2017 LISTEN

Accra, Sept. 23, GNA - A 400-page book on promoting total quality management and assurance has been launched in Accra.

The book: 'Managing for Excellence in the Twenty-First Century: The Total Quality Approach,' authored by Professor Goski Alabi, is a seminal book for achieving the much sough-after traits of quality and excellence.

It also provides a practical yet philosophical prospective into achieving quality and excellence.

The author brings a combined experience from industry, academia and research into a compendium of principles, theories, practices, tools, techniques and strategies that could provide and support personal and organisational transformation and sustainable growth.

Prof. Alabi, who is also the Dean of the Centre for International Education and Collaboration (CIEC), at the University of Professional Studies, during the launch, said the book was for Africans, especially Ghanaians, to learn lessons from their counterparts in Japan, Singapore on total quality approaches.

She said the book, when accessed, would help achieve the African dream and eventually the Agenda 2063.

'I believed the book will help policy makers address some of Africa's problems and challenges in terms of quality approaches and management,' she added.

Prof. Alabi said the African Continent needed to rise and take the bull by the horn to address the challenges that face its citizens.

She said the principles in the book were applicable not only to organisations but also to individuals adding that; 'We should be able to take the principle and contextualise it.'

Through the search for excellence and sustainability, Prof Alabi presented a different functional approach to management using a combination of existing wisdom, theories and practices to help create and deliver value that meets or exceeds expectations.

Prof Alabi attempted to discuss the reasons why there should be the worry about Quality: - competition, customer satisfaction, maintaining standards, accountability, improvement of employee morale and motivation, credibility, prestige and status, image and visibility.

Mr Kofi Essuman, the Quality Assurance Manager of Unilever Ghana, commended the author for her effort to promote total quality management in the country.

He said he agreed with the author on the need for African countries to build strong leadership skills, especially in Ghana, to drive the developmental agenda of the Continent.
