22.09.2017 LISTEN

Kumasi, Sept 20, GNA - Ghana Baptist Convention has saluted the government for the great door of opportunity it has opened for every Ghanaian child through the free senior high school (SHS) policy.

The Reverend Dr. Steve Asante, a former President of the Convention, said investing in the nation's human capital, was a right step and should make everybody excited.

It was therefore pertinent for all to accept to work together to sustain the policy on the path of success to achieve the expected outcomes.

He was speaking at an induction service held for the Rev Charles Oppong-Poku, the Mid-Ghana Sector Head of the Convention at Patasi in Kumasi.

The theme chosen for the service was 'Serving the Lord with apostolic ambition'.

The Rev Dr. Asante urged the government to go to every length to block revenue leakages and make corruption a disincentive through punishment of offending public officials.

That, he said, was the way to go to ensure that, there was enough funds to support social interventions and initiatives meant to lift the population out of poverty.

He called for the congregation to continue to pray for God's guidance for the country's leaders to govern transparently and justly.

He reminded his colleague pastors to be accountable to those they were leading and said that was how to get the congregation behind them.

He added that they should do more to assist them to live their faith - overcome the obsession with material wealth and to refuse to be part of anything evil.

Mr. Osei Assibey- Antwi, the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive (KMA), underlined the government's determination to build a nation that worked for everybody.

He said it would keep faith with the people and that it was never going to betray their trust.

He urged the church to join hands with the government to bring development to the people.
