Accra, Sept. 18 - (UPI/GNA) - The White House is scheduled to meet with the presidents of some of the historically black colleges and universities on Monday.
Administration officials will hold the White House summit at 8 a.m. EDT with several leaders of the United States' historically black campuses.
This event comes amid some contention between the Trump administration and black college leaders over the Education Department's removal of support for HBCUs.
In February, more than 60 HBCU presidents met with the president to discuss his views and agenda.
Several school leaders, though, have refused to attend the summit with administration officials -- believing President Donald Trump doesn't adequately support their campuses. Some had called for the summit to be postponed.
The summit will be streamed live by the White House.
President Donald Trump, in New York City Monday for the U.N. General Assembly this week, will not be at the White House for the summit. Administration officials indicated, though, that the president will sign a declaration making this HCBU Week.
