Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai-District Assembly Takes Step To Strengthen Revenue Collection

Bibiani (W/R) Sept 12, GNA - The Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai-District has taken steps to strengthen its revenue collection performance.

This involves blocking leakages, training of its revenue collectors and equipping them with the needed logistics.

Mr. Stephen Ackaah, the District Budget Analyst, said it had additionally scaled up tax education campaign to encourage the people to pay their rates and fees.

He was presenting the assembly's budget and economic policy at an emergency meeting held in Bibiani.

The assembly had as of the end of June, raked in GH¢3,146,152.28, representing 30.24 per cent of the GH¢10,403,376.00 it had targeted to collect for the year.

He labelled the performance as not encouraging and said that needed to radically improve.

For year 2018, the assembly has projected to collect GH¢12,068,800.32.

He urged the assembly members to do more to ensure that every pesewa due the assembly was collected.

They should also help to educate the people about the need to honour their tax obligations.

Mr. Ackaah said it was important for everybody to recognize that the assembly's ability to bring development projects to the communities was dependent on the strength of its finances.
