Rawlings Continues To Wallow In Abject Denial
09.09.2017 LISTEN

These days, it looks as if some of Ghana’s web-media proprietors or webmasters, so-called, are boycotting my journalistic fare or write-ups, as many a Ghanaian patron of the media is wont to say, with the progressive exception of the editors and publishers of Modernghana.com and the Berlin, Germany-based Africanewsanalysis.com. What such apparent boycott may be about, I really don’t know, except for the fact that a remarkable percentage of these web-media operatives may be as inordinately partisan in favor of the recently defeated, or I should more aptly say, democratically deposed, Rawlings-minted and Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC), as I am passionately partial and unabashedly in favor of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo-inspired and Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP).

There is something typically, albeit regressively, Ghanaian here that I am not inclined to comment on presently. This is not the very first time that the operatives of Ghanaweb.com have vengefully refused to steadily publish my articles. It is ironic because there is absolutely nothing that I personally gain from getting published on these Ghanaian media websites, besides my avid desire to contribute to the perennial discourse on our nation’s development. I had already established my journalistic credentials at least a decade before the appearance of the oldest Ghanaian media website, right here in New York City, having also turned down a couple of prime opportunities to write for globally renowned media institutions right here in this global village.

As indicated above, my fervid interest in writing for the Ghanaian media, at the repeated urging of a quite renowned Nigerian scholar-historian, to be certain, has been to primarily facilitate a substantive discourse on our national development agenda, that is, if we really have any. As a democratic media culture, Ghana comes into the game very late. And, by and large, our media web operatives do not seem to be in any hurry to see the country go anywhere in particular, which largely explains why unlike here in the United States, and some of the other advanced Western countries, and some progressive Third-World countries as well, for example, the media does not seem to be registering the desired impact.

If, indeed, the objective here is to get some of us patriotic volunteers out of the proverbial national ideational public market square, then, of course, these apparently pathologically regressive web-media proprietors and operatives would soon have their wish. I will eventually get my effectively dormant private blog operational, and then the rest of these media scumbags could literally go to Hell or Hades, whichever they choose. I have also admonished the movers-and-shakers of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), which was less than a year ago in the political opposition, to establish politically and commercially competitive websites and radio stations, so we can get the serious business of cutting-edge national development going. Relying on the pathologically self-absorbed likes of Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong will not cut it.

The second purpose of this column is to address a brief news article captioned “Mahama Continued Kufuor, Mills’ Corruption – Rawlings” Classfmonline.com / Ghanaweb.com 8/16/17), in which Chairman Jerry John Rawlings smugly sought to fault his own vintage political products, namely, Messrs. John Agyekum-Kufuor, John Evans Atta-Mills and John Dramani Mahama for abject and rank corruption in the country. Maybe the former Ghanaian strongman and elected former president has not been paying attention. If he had, Mr. Rawlings would have heard yours truly repeatedly cite the old Akan maxim which tersely observes that “A crab does not beget a bird.” It is an open-secret that it was the Rawlings-led mixed junta and civilian regime of the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC) and the so-called National Democratic Congress, respectively, that incubated and shamelessly hatched corruption the way Fourth-Republican Ghanaian citizens have come to know the same.

The illegal or extra-legal cannibalization of state-owned real-estate properties and the privatization of the same, was invented by Chairman Rawlings and his P/NDC Abongo Boys; and so one does not know what to make of his accusation of corruption against the three aforementioned former Ghanaian leaders, whom the former Ghana Airforce flight-lieutenant created himself. You see, denial, however loudly it is screamed or shouted in the public square, cannot not muff up the veritable author of whatever may be decried. Mr. Rawlings would be better off atoning for his indelibly incarnadine crimes against Ghanaian humanity than compounding them with vacuous self-righteous indignation. At 70, TogbuiAvaklasu ought to know far better than that.
