President Kufuor goes to the US

Accra, June 12, GNA- President John Agyekum Kufuor on Saturday left Accra for the United States to met with President George Bush to discuss wide range of issues including peace, security and debt relief. Other Heads of State from Niger, Botswana and Namibia would also attend the meeting at the invitation of the American President.

In a pre-departure interview with Journalist, the press secretary to the President, Mr Kwabena Agyepong said the African leaders were expected advocate greater assistance for developing countries that had shown progress in their democratic reforms. He said trade and investment issues would also be considered at the meeting to enable so that African products could compete with those from other countries at the international level.

Mr Agyepong stated that president Kufuor would use the opportunity to hold talks with the Chief Executive Officer of the Millennium Challenge Account of which Ghana was a beneficiary. He said the country's democratic reform were yielding dividend leading to a 100 per cent debt cancellation.

The Foreign Minister, Nana Addo Dankwa, Kwabena Agyepong, and other officials of the foreign affairs accompanied President Kufuor To see the entourage off, at the Kotoka Airport were the Vice President, Alhaji Alieu Mahama, the Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier J B Dankwa and Ibrahim Omar, Dean of the diplomatic corps.
