All disability groups across the country are embarking on a nationwide demonstration against the New Patriotic Party administration on Friday 25th August 2017.

The groups are protesting delays in the release of their share of the District Assembly Common Fund.

The persons with disability complain they have been left disadvantaged as most of them need the money to support them to pay for their school fees and other medical bills.

The Ashanti regional President of the Ghana Federation for the Disabled, Alfred Tebi Amponsah told Ultimate News the action which has been adopted by all eight chapters of the Federation has become necessary because they have exhausted all channels of redress.

Speaking to Ultimate News’ Ivan Heathcote – Fumador, he indicated that “The persons with disability are tired. We have taken all measures but still we are not having it. We have planned that by 25th which is this coming Friday; persons with disability throughout the whole country will demonstrate against the current government because of this our share of the Common Fund which has not been disbursed unto us.”

The administrator of the district assembly common fund Irene Naa Torshie Addo last week explained the delays were as a result of a validation process being undertaken by the Disability councils to bring an end to the complaints of fraud and misappropriation of the disability fund.

Mr Tebi however indicated that the federation in the Ashanti region has not been contacted on any ongoing verification or modalities concerning this purported validation exercise.

He indicated that the national office of the Ghana Federation for the Disabled will come out with a definite communiqué on the intended demonstration scheduled for Friday.

Asked how persons with disability will embark on a demonstration considering their status, Tebi Amponsah retorted, “I have a white cane, someone is using clutches, someone is also using a wheel chair. When we get to the river, we will know how to cross it.”
