AUG 17, 2017 LISTEN

The leadership of the National Health Students Association of Ghana (NAHSAG) and the Coalition of Degree Allied Health Professionals (CODAHP) wish to express its disappointment and displeasure in the Ministry of Health regarding the manner in which the ministry is handling the clearance processes of qualified Degree Allied Health Professionals.

The Ministry of Health has resumed the same attitude of frustrating and disappointing leaders on weekly basis with no reasons or explanations for the apparent delays in the financial clearance of the degree allied health professionals.

The unproductive approach of the ministry towards our clearance issues coupled with the discovery of the non-submission of the qualified degree allied health of professionals to the Ministry of Finance for clearance on 30th May, 2017 contrary to its promissory letter (find below) signed by the Chief Director dated 28th February, 2017 led to the picketing of members at their premises on 6th July, 2017. We continuously explored all diplomatic means to resolve our issues thereafter but were all fruitless.

It would be recalled that a planned picketing on Tuesday, 1st August, 2017 was suspended to enable leadership and representatives of the various professions meet with officials of the ministry on Thursday, 3rd August, 2017.

Leadership was informed that submission of the list has been made to the Director of Human Resources Directorate at the behest of the Chief Director for consideration. The Director HRD indicated that he is still studying the list (which was first submitted to him on 30th January, 2017) and asked us to check a week after.

Follow ups on the 10th and 15th August, 2017 did not yield any positive results as we were told the Director has not been available and no official could tell us the status of our clearance. This development has rendered us hopeless in our quest to seek the mandate to render our services to the people of Ghana. We anticipated a more proactive, professional and responsive means in addressing our issues however, the turn of events is a clear indication of lack of commitment on the side of the ministry to ensure these qualified professionals are employed and a subtle way to stifle our unwavering determination to demand for Ghanaians the safe, reliable, comprehensive and efficient health care services rendered by the Allied Health Professionals.

Members are ready to besiege the Ministry of Health on Tuesday, 22nd August, 2017 to demand cogent explanations on the status on the financial clearance. We believe this situation could be avoided if officials of the ministry end the evasive actions and commit to transparency and truthfulness in handling this clearance issue.

Thank you.
Sincerely,
Richard Osei-Yeboah
President, National Health Students Association of Ghana

Spokesperson, Coalition of Degree Allied Health Professionals
