GNA

Suhum (E/R), June 3, GNA - The Chiefs and people of Yawkorkor, a farming community near Suhum, in the Suhum-Kraboa-Coalter District has appealed to the Suhum-Kraboa-Coalter District Assembly to construct a permanent bridge over River Agonafi to enable them to cart their produce to the marketing centres.

Making the appeal at a community meeting at Yawkorkor attended by chiefs, farmers, opinion leaders, Miss Barbara Ablorh, Assembly member for the area, said following the destruction of an bridge in a rainstorm that hit the area a week ago farmers had had to carry their produce over a distance of seven kilometres to either Nsawam or Teacher Mante to sell.

Miss Ablorh said due to the incident, drivers have stopped plying on the road and the sick has to be carried on shoulders to the hospital at Nsawam.

She appealed to nongovernmental organisation engaged in assisting the poor to come to their aid since their farm produce such as tomatoes and cassava were getting rotten.
