Accra, Aug. 1, GNA - Rescue Ghana Mission (RGM), a Benevolent Ministry within the Church of Christ in Ghana, has commemorated one year of providing support to 50 rural preachers of the Church with thanksgiving and fund raising event in Accra.

The Mission hopes to increase the number of beneficiary preachers from its current number of 50 to 100.

Mr Stephen Mensah, an Elder of the Osu Church of Christ, speaking at the event, said currently, there were about 130 preachers waiting to be enrolled into the programme.

To commemorate the occasion, the Elders of Osu Church of Christ in Accra, who oversee the RGM Ministry, organize a 'Thanksgiving and Fundraising Event' in collaboration with Nsawam Road Church of Christ Singers.

Singing groups that graced the occasion were Angelic Voices from Osu Church of Christ, Melody Maestros from Sakumono Church of Christ, Voices of the Cross from Korle-Bu Campus Ministry and Voice of the Living Saints from the Churches of Christ in Tema.

He said enrolling additional preachers, therefore means that more funding would be needed.

He said the RGM Ministry operated on four thematic areas, including providing financial support for preachers working in rural communities, helping preachers working in rural communities to retool themselves to enable them become more efficient and to meet the holistic needs of the saints they serve.

It is also to provide resources both financial and logistics for gospel campaigns in the rural communities, to support health expense of beneficiary preachers and their families and to provide retirement packages for preachers, who were covered by the programme.

'These objectives have been categorised into short, medium and long term and currently RGM is providing financial support and training for its beneficiary preachers,' he added.

Mr Mensah said RGM depended solely on selfless contributions from Churches of Christ and so far individual members of the Church were the main sources of funding and besides, there were few congregations (home and abroad), who supported either every month or occasionally.

Mr Lord Asante Fordjour, an Executive Member, told the Ghana News Agency that the executives of RGM would use the event to render account on how much funds have been mobilized so far.

He said as part of activities marking the commemoration, 40 of the beneficiary rural preachers have been drawn from each of the ten regions to undergo a two-day refresher training course at Heritage Christian College.

Rescue Ghana Mission was officially launched in Accra in July 2016 to kick start implementation having been established in May 2015 as a Benevolent Ministry under the oversight of the Elders of Osu Church of Christ.

He said a total of about GH¢8,000.00 was disbursed every month and the preachers were paid through mobile money.
