Accra, July 27, GNA - President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday witnessed the ceremonial Change of the Guards at the Flagstaff House in Accra.

The quarterly ceremonial parade is a colonial legacy inherited from the British and is similar to that of the Buckingham Palace.

President Akufo-Addo is witnessing the ceremony for the second time as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces. The first was on March 27, 2017.

The Ghana Navy takes over guard duties at the Flagstaff House for the next three months. Until the ceremony the Ghana Army was in charge of guard duties.

The ceremony, characterised by complex but precise military drills and poignant evocation of songs by the combined band of the Army and Navy, was also witnessed by the Chief of Staff, Madam Akosua Frema Opare, ministers of state, service chiefs and top government functionaries as well as school children.
