Accra, July 25, GNA - Mr Theodore Nii Adjetey Adjei, the Headmaster of Association Community Model Basic School, has appealed to stakeholders and institutions to support them with teaching resources to enhance learning.

He said the school had achieved a lot but the absence of computer laboratory, personal computers, sports equipment and inadequate classrooms have led to congestion and ineffective teaching of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the school.

Mr Adjei made the appeal at the school's graduation, Speech and Prize Giving Day in Accra on the theme: 'Our Quest for Educational Excellence, the Role of the Community.'

He said though ICT played an integral role in this modernised world, the school was seriously challenged in the sector with over 600 student population using only four laptops.

The Headmaster said notwithstanding these challenges, some parents were still not providing their wards with essential basic educational needs. He urged parents to see their children's educational needs as equally important and provide them to with the needed materials to give them a brighter future.

Mrs Gifty Twum Ampofo, the Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, said education was key and necessary for every community striving to attain sustainable development.

She explained that although everyone was aware of the benefits of education, 'It is sad to note that in Ghana, a number of children are not given the opportunity to have access to quality education'.

She said quality education was an investment that needed a lot of sacrifices by stakeholders, and it was imperative parents and other stakeholders ensure that the dividend of investments in education was realised.

'Education is about future and destiny, where every parent must be part of what goes on with their investments, Provide for your children, send them to school and also keep an oversight responsibility on teachers to make sure that they are delivered and the necessary reward is giving to teachers and the pupils,' she advised.

According to her, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection have been working tirelessly to eliminate these unhealthy practices by parents from the Ghanaian Society.

Mrs Ampofo urged parents to take keen interest in their children's education and ensure that were given the best quality education.

She commended the teachers for their efforts and described them as key stakeholders in the drive for sustainable development.

Mr Vincent Odotei Sowah, the Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopong, congratulated the school and graduands for successes chalked so far and expressed government's commitment in upgrading the public school system to enable them progress.

He assured them of a new computer laboratory to address their challenge as well as serve as a benefit for other schools.
