Accra, July 25, GNA - The commissioning of a 52 bed capacity hostel for the Government Secretarial School (GSS) comes off on Friday, August 28, in Accra.

The commissioning would be performed by Madam Otiko Afisah Djaba, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, to be assisted by the Head of Civil Service, Nana Agyekum Dwamena.

A statement from the Office of the Head of Civil Service (OHCS), signed by Tony Goodman, Head of Public Relations on Tuesday said, as part of the ceremony, about 150 students would be graduating from the School after completing a Full-Time Post-Senior High Secretarial Course.

The 64th Graduation would be on the theme, 'Professional Secretarial Education and Training: a Critical Tool for National Development'.

The Government Secretarial School which is one of the Training institutions under the auspices of the OHCS runs numerous programmes in the field of professional secretarial training including the secretarial Course.

It also organises capacity development programmes for Top Level Secretaries within the Public and Civil Service to sharpen their skills and competencies for efficient and effective service delivery at the middle and the top levels of the government administration.

The GSS was established in May 1952 by the British Colonial Administration and placed under the Establishment Secretariat, now the OHCS. The GSS was mandated to offer training and examine Secretarial staff of the Establishment Secretariat.

Since the establishment, nationals and non-nationals have undergone training and development and have contributed their quota in the socio-economic development of the nation and beyond.

Some of the products include, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the First Lady, Late Squadron Leader Melody Millicent Danquah (Rtd), Africa's first Female Pilot and COP, Dr. Peter Wiredu, former Director, Ghana Immigration Service.

Others are DCOP, Akrofi Asiedu, former Greater Accra Police Commander, Dr. Jemima Lomottey, Head of ICT Faculty, Bank of Ghana and Mr. Nii Addey, former Senior Assistant Registrar of the University of Ghana.
