Bolgatanga, July 25, GNA - The National Youth Employment Agency is to create 85,000 jobs for the Youth by close of this year, Mr Bashiru Ibrahim, the Deputy Chief Executive (CEO) Officer of the Agency, has said.

The Deputy CEO said this at the New Patriotic Party Upper East Regional Annual Delegate Conference held in Bolgatanga on Monday.

Mr Ibrahim gave the new modules as Graduate paid interns, Non-graduate paid interns, Youth in Sanitation, Youth in Agriculture Model and Youth Afforestation Model

He said under the Non-graduate paid interns, students who have completed Junior High school and those without formal educational could apply for such jobs.

Mr Ibrahim said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo viewed youth unemployment as a national security issue adding that this is the reason why the New Patriotic Party prioritized it in its manifesto.

He said it was the hope of government to help curb unemployment in the country and entreated the youth who are interested to apply for some of the models advertised online.

In another development, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Mr Emmanuel Asigre, said his outfit is rolling out a number of skill development training programmes to train the youth in both the formal and informal sector.

He said Government was quite concerned about the huge number of youth in the informal sector who lacked the requisite skills and stressed that such youth would be catered for.

He mentioned basket and smock weaving and metal works among some of the areas that have the greatest potentials of creating jobs and reducing poverty in the region and called on the Municipal and District Assemblies to begin registering those who would be interested in acquiring skills in those areas to benefit from the skill training programme.

He said the skills development training programmes which is expected to be rolled out in September year would also place emphasis on agriculture adding that 'butternut squash which is in high demand on the international market will be given priority.
