Accra, July 25, GNA - The Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS) has launched a fundraising project to enable it address some underlying issues affecting the institution, including capacity building, and rebranding.

The GhIS has targeted to raise one million Ghana Cedis for the year to support the completion of the Secretariat block and surroundings including the wall; branding and re-branding activities of the Governing Council, and to support research in the Tertiary Institution and Industry.

Others include passage of the Survey Council Bill and the Real Estate Bill; Visibility in the eyes of the public using print and electronic media platforms and to purchase a pick-up truck among others.

Mr Edwin Addo Tawiah, President of GhIS, said the fundraising would also afford the Institution the platform to promote public education through land forums and media appearances.

He said the Governing Council spent more than 90 per cent of the subscriptions on administrative and statutory expenses and therefore had become imperative to raise money to cater for ad hoc projects.

He said with the introduction of brand icons promoting leadership and mentorship amongst young and old surveyors, the body was confident of leveraging experiences to foster the achievement of its objectives as an institution whilst leaving a legacy for posterity.

The Brand Icon of the GhIS would be one of the faces of the institution during a year's term of office, and shall perform other assignments as delegated by the Governing Council through the Presidency.

Other assignments include mentoring of Young Surveyors and members of all categories both internal and external of the GhIS includes; promoting and exemplifying the brand attributes of GhIS, projecting activities and programmes of the GhIS through own initiatives and activities; and serving as advocate for promoting the sustainability of the relevance of GhIS to the advancement of Ghana, Africa and humanity.

Mr Tawiah announced that the Governing Council had an agreement with the Hot FM and Citi FM to roll-out a one-year talk show dubbed: 'You and the Surveyor,' to educate the public on various issues concerning the profession.

Mr James E.K Dadson, a Past President of GhIS, expressed the need to support research of Surveyors and urged members and the corporate institutions to donate generously towards achieving the goals.

Ms Yvonne Sowah, Managing Director of Alpha Properties Services Limited, also a past President of GhIS, urged the fundraising committee to take their activities to all seminars of the three divisions of the Institution to enable them achieve their targets.

'We are all interested in the growth of the Institution and I hope that once we aspired, we can do it and even over achieved the yearly target,' she added.
