Stay Clear Of The EC Boss !

By The Right Alliance-Ghana
Press Release Stay Clear Of The EC Boss !
JUL 24, 2017 LISTEN

The Right Alliance-Ghana has noted with growing alarm what appears to be covert attempts by some cowardly, faceless elements hiding behind a nebulous description of ‘Concerned Workers of the Electoral Commission’ to remove the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Charlotte Osei. Through one lawyer Maxwell Opoku Agyemang, these faceless individuals have presented a petition to the President, H E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, who has wasted no time in acknowledging receipt of the petition and giving assurance it would be worked on promptly.

It is quite instructive and noteworthy that this same President, over two months since one Brogya Gyamfi submitted a petition to him to set up a commission to probe the $2.25 billion bond transaction by his Finance Minister, Kenneth Ofori Atta, is yet to acknowledge receipt of the said petition, let alone respond to its request.

Knowing the malicious attacks the current EC Chairperson suffered from individuals and groups associated with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) before the 2016 General Elections that brought the party into power, the unfolding development lends much credence to the suspicion and speculations that the move to remove Mrs Osei from her position is being orchestrated by the NPP as a political organisation. It is also curious to think that such a petition, which should be absolutely confidential, found its way onto some media platforms. This only deepens the suspicion of conspiracy.

The Right Alliance-Ghana therefore wishes to take this opportunity to caution the President to tread cautiously and not fall to the whims and caprices of any individuals or groups, whether they are linked to his government and party or not, to make any attempt to remove the EC Chairperson. Any such attempt is likely to have dire consequences that would not bode well for the country and its young democracy. We Ghanaians love and cherish our democracy which we are all nurturing and would do everything to protect and promote it!
