KKDA ends public hearing on fee fixing resolution at ZEKKAS

Tema, June 27, GNA - Mr. Noble Atsu Ahadzi, the District Budget Officer for the Kpone Katamanso District Assembly, says it is the responsibility of every citizen to pay their basic rates of Gh¢2.10 since it is mandated by law.

He made this call during the end of its public hearing on the fee fixing resolution with members of Zenu-Katamanso-Kubekro-Atadeka-Santeo (ZEKKAS) Area Council.

Mr. Atsu Ahadzi said that, 'the assembly is not going to stop taking on members who fail to pay their basic and property rates within the District' and advised members to request for receipt whenever they made payments.

The Budget Officer admonished revenue collectors to collect data on properties when distributing bills to residents.

Mr. Ahadzi added that, the Assembly had so far digitized 66,000 properties within the Kpone Katamanso District and appealed to residents of Zenu to consider moving from the 3rd class residents to 2nd class to increase its revenue mobilization.

The public hearing was in accordance with the new Local Government Act 2016, Act 936 which mandated the District Assemblies to engage members of the District in determining how much should be levied on them for developmental purposes.

With a Power Point presentation, the District Planning Officer, Mrs. Ivy Oduro Kwateng outlined the various developmental projects KKDA had carried out since its creation in June 2012.

According to the District Planning Officer, in spite of the successes choked by the Assembly, there were still more work to be done within the district, and called on members to assist the Assembly.

The meeting was attended by traders, artisans, landlords, opinion leaders, representatives of businesses, unit committee and Assembly members.

The participants deliberated and made recommendations to the officials on how they should be levied for developmental purposes.
