Accra, June 24, GNA - The Gborbu Wulomo Shitse, the Overlord of the Ga-Dangme State has announced a one week ban on drumming and noise-making in Nungua and its environs from Monday, June 26.

This forms part of activities to pave way for the preparation of the annual Kplejo festival of the chiefs and people of Nungua in the Greater Accra Region.

This was in a statement signed by Nii Okplen Jalesane II, the Nungua Oblatai Mantse and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Saturday.

It mentioned some of the areas which would be affected by the ban as Nungua Township, Nungua Estates, Grader Estates, Addo Gonno, Baatsonaa, Kotobaabi, Okpoi Gonno, the Spintex Road, Sakumono Township and Sakumono Estates.

The statement said on Tuesday, June 27, the traditional authorities would perform a rite called 'Gbejee' thus path clearing to clear paths which lead to various grooves in Nungua whilst on June 29 residents at the afore-mentioned areas would be expected to stay indoors by 2200 hours.

'It must be emphasised that it is a taboo and a sacrilege for an eye to see the performers of the rites,' the statement said, adding that these would be followed by the festival itself.

It urged the public to judiciously observe the customs to avoid any confrontation with the traditional authorities while appealing to the local council of churches to educate their members.

The statement warned that a taskforce would be formed with name tags to work in collaboration with the police to monitor activities and anyone found without identification should be reported to the office of the Gborbu Wulomo Shitse.
