PWDs in Bolgatanga Municipal receive disability fund

Bolgatanga, June 24, GNA - Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Bolgatanga Municipal have received various sums of money from the Municipal Assembly to boost their income generation activities.

The beneficiaries numbering; 34 who applied for the support from the Disability fund of the Assembly's Common Fund took delivery of their cheques on Thursday in Bolgatanga.

Mr Mark Atia Akubire, outgoing chairman of Persons with disability in the Bolgatanga Municipal who addressed the group, reiterated government's commitment to ensure that disabled persons lived dignified lives, saying the money would not only keep many of them off the streets but would help retain their dignity.

He urged the PWDs to keep off the streets and rather get themselves engaged in income generation activities to improve their lives.

He said the need for people with disabilities to live in dignity was crucial and urged them to work hard to improve their businesses and be role models to their colleagues.

He said regular visits would be made to beneficiaries to monitor the performance of their businesses.

Mrs Naomi Panwum of the Bolgatanga National Board for small scale industries said the PWDs would be trained regularly to build up their businesses and urged them to refrain from wrongful investments and abuse of the money.

Mrs Mercy Pwaone, the Bolgatanga Municipal Director of Social Welfare and Community Development briefing the beneficiaries said the PWDs applied for the funds from the common fund which was approved by the Assembly to support them in their income generation activities.

Some of the beneficiaries, Mr Daniel Mbibila, received GHC 999.00 to start a new business, Mr Abdul Munin who deals in Islamic scholarly books and articles also received GHC1,140 and Emelia Anandongo, a hairdresser received GHC700.00 among others.
