Hurray! Ada Asafotufiami Is 80-Years!! Join The August Celebration!!!

The 80th Anniversary of Asafotufiami, an annual traditional festival celebrated by the people of Ada, in the Greater Accra Region has been launched in Accra.

The festival slated for 3 to 10 August, is on the theme:“Peace and Unity as a tool for socio-economic transformation for Ada Traditional Area”.

The celebration would be dedicated to two projects, the building of a palace for the paramountcy and the construction of a health facility respectively.

A renowned native of Ada, Nii Kotei Dzani the CEO of the Ideal Financial Holdings donated GHC 300,000 towards the project and called on chiefs from the area to remain united in order to ensure development of the area.

He called on the youth to maintain the legacy of the Ada people by sustaining the tradition and customs of the land whilst promoting development in the area.

The Paramount Chief of Ada Traditional Area, Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, said the initiative of this year’s festival was timely and added that it was about time the Ada hierarchy had a befitting palace.

“The palace project has become necessary because the Ada state has existed for about 400 years without one and the sacred role of chiefs in the present political landscape in the country is demanding of such project,” Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III said.

He called on sons and daughters of Ada to continue to support the area in order to sustain the area which was gradually dwindling in terms of communal commitment.

.MP for Ada, Doyoe Cudjoe- Ghansah, said that the area great potential for socio-economic development.

She called on corporate organizations to support the festival and reiterated her commitment in supporting the area to develop better.

“On my part as a Member of Parliament I will continue to do my bit to promote the peace and unity for the betterment of all Adas and I will challenge all of us to also to also add our bit to the cause

“As I did in the previous celebration, I will ensure again that I work hand-in-hand with the security operatives to provide enough security for the protection and life and property, before, during and after the festival,” she said.

Asafotufiam" is an annual warriors' festival celebrated by the people of Ada, in the Greater Accra Region from the last Thursday of July to the first weekend of August. It commemorates the victories of the warriors in battle and those who fell on the battlefield.

To re-enact these historic events, the "warriors" dress in traditional battle dress and stage a mock battle. This is also a time when the young men are introduced to warfare. It is climaxed with a grand durbar of chiefs.
