Fencing Can Take Ghanaian Students To Places

HE Andras Szabo, the Hungary Ambassador to Ghana believes sports like Fencing which are classified as lesser known sports in Ghana can take students and interested players to places.

Speaking to Yours Truly at the First Inter Schools Fencing Competition for students at the Accra Sports Stadium, he noted that the Hungary Embassy supported the event because it is a popular Olympic sport were medals can be won.

Winners of the competition got tickets to visit Hungary for ten days, camping and training with experts in the sport.

He disclosed that the competition would create healthy relationships among the schools that participated and the Embassy of Hungary

HE Szabo hinted that though the equipment used in the sport is expensive, they are prepared to support and keep the students doing something useful.

He was impressed with the patronage with more schools just coming to watch and not participating like Legon Presec.

The schools that competed in the one day program were Sogasco, Ningo SHS, Three Town SHS, Yilo Krobo SHS, Bawku Technical and Azoko Amass.

Mohammed Mahadi, President of the Ghana Fencing Association who is also Vice President of the African Fencing Confederation commended the officials and players who showed promise and displayed to the admiration of spectators including the Die Hard Supporters Group.

Among the guests who watched the event are Affail Monney, President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and Saka Akwei, deputy Director General at the National Sports Authority (NSA).

Most students who watched the competition expressed that it is very interesting and more schools should be involved next time.
