Nothing short of pure drama unfolded in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti region when some illegal miners attempted bribing a security taskforce with an amount of GHC1,300 (One-Thousand Three Hundred Ghana Cedis) during a special swoop led by the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area.
The taskforce rejected the offer and arrested the three suspects believed to be Togolese.
They were caught in the act around the Keniago Essienkyem area of Amansie West.
The suspects will soon be put before the court to face full rigours of the law. Meanwhile, the money involved has been kept safely as evidence to be presented in court.
The DCE for Amansie West, William Bediako Asante, on Monday led a special taskforce and other security officials to some key areas in the district suspected to be Galamsey-prone.
"This was part of our sustained effort at combating the galamsay menace. In all about 9 Raft machines as well as 12 Chanfan machines were destroyed. Three people suspected to be Togolese were also apprehended," the DCE told journalists.
He revealed that the taskforce was made up of a team of police men from the Manso Nkwanta District and SWAT as well the anti-Galamsey taskforce numbering about 30.
Hon. William Bediako Asante assured nobody will be allowed to thwart the President's effort to bequeath to Ghanaians a clean and safer environment.
He warned some chiefs and people in the community to stop harbouring these miscreants or face the attendant consequences.
