Accra, May 21,GNA- A study conducted by the Private Enterprise Foundation (PEF), has suggested the need for the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to consider establishing dedicated pipelines to industrial units once the proportions of distribution to customers have been determined.

The findings of the studies conducted between October 2004 and February 2005, recommended the overhauling of the transmission and distribution lines of the GWCL and extend its metering programme to all consumers. Dr Osei Boeh-Ocansey, Director General of the PEF, gave highlights of the findings at a press briefing in Accra on the Utilities Week celebrations scheduled for May 23 to May 27, 2005.

The week, will examine the contributions of utility service providers to private sector growth and how to consolidate the influence of works that have been undertaken by the Foundation to improve the utility service sector.

A roundtable on the impact of power outages is scheduled in Accra on Monday, May 23.

Dr Boeh-Ocansey said there would also be input project seminars on water, energy and transport on May 26 and May 27. He said a previous study by PEF in the telecom sector prompted Ghana Telecom to announce plans to restructure customer care and employment generation activities.
