Abibiman Foundation On World Refugee Day: Stop Inhumane Treatment Against Asylum Seekers
20.06.2017 LISTEN

An unprecedented 65.6 million people around the world have been forced from home. Among them are nearly 22.5 million refugees, over half of whom are under the age of 18. By UNHCR

There are about 14,000 refugees in Ghana now. Out of the number, two-thirds live in Ampanin and Krisan in the Western Region, Egyeikrom in the Central Region and Fetentaa in the Brong Ahafo Region. Ghana Refugee Board (GRB)

Universal Declaration of Human Rights which states in Article 14 that. “Everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution.”

As we mark world refugee day let us not forget the 63 Ghanaians who were deported to Ghana and were treated like criminals.

We are calling on the United States to act in line with the understanding of global burden and responsibility sharing and take responsibility of asylum seekers human rights, when bring them home.

This day calls on the international community to remember the plight of the millions of people worldwide who have been forced to flee from their homes as a result of poverty and conflict persecution and to help them with sustainable solutions in the fields of protection and humanitarian assistance.

In a world where violence forces thousands of families to flee for their lives each day, the time is now to show that the global public stands with refugees.

As we mark world refugee day, I wish to call on Government and the United Nations system to safeguard and protect the rights of refugees.

I humbly urge all to join the fight against the inhumane treatment of asylum seekers. Because, when we stand together #WithRefugees, we also stand for respect and diversity for all.
