Dormaa Ahenkro (B/A), June 19, GNA - Mr Munkaila Jawad, the Dormaa Municipal Director, Ministry of Food and Agriculture(MOFA), has refuted assertion by some maize farmers in the Municipality that the chemicals used in the control of the fall army worm infestations is non-efficacious.

He said it was rather the mode of application of the chemical which rendered it ineffective.

Mr Jawad made this known at an emergency meeting of the Assembly at Dormaa-Ahenkro on Monday.

He stressed that some of the farmers applied the chemicals at wrong periods which could not kill the worms.

'The farmers were using the applications in the afternoon instead of morning. You need to target the worms at the time when you will find them out on the corn. And this is usually in the morning,' he added.

Mr Jawad said the directorate was supplying maize farmers with the Adepa, Supertop, Confidor and Bypel chemicals to control the infestations in the affected farms.

He advised the affected farmer to monitor the efficacy of the chemicals and report results to his outfit, saying because of lack of vehicle the directorate could not undertake the monitoring.

Mr Jawad appealed to the farmers to form groups to benefit from the free distribution of the chemicals, saying the chemicals were not to be supplied to individual farmers.
