Chieftaincy Kokrobite Community In State Of Fear Over 'Fierce' Chieftaincy Dispute
JUN 19, 2017 LISTEN

There is general fear in Oshiyie, a small fishing community around Kokrobite in Accra, following stern chieftaincy clashes in the area.

Two feuding groups have been battling for the legitimacy of the stool after they abandoned processes in the past, to have their misunderstanding resolved.

For close to two decades the two factions have been breathing fire down the neck of each other to the detriment of residents in the community.

The clashes have been worse since the beginning of 2017, with residents being targeted for attacks.

On Sunday, a middle aged man was attacked with machetes and clubs by one of the factions after he stepped out of church service to pass urine.

The man told Joy News’ Maxwell Agbagbah he would have been fatally wounded if he had not fortified himself against machete attacks.

The injured man told the reporter the wounds he suffered were because the men resorted to the use of broken bottles after they realized the machetes were not working.

Another man who identified himself as Patrick Okutsu was also attacked by thugs while at work in his shop. The men inflicted cutlass wounds on him threatening to do more if he did not relocate from the community.

Mr Okutsu told the reporter he is afraid for his life since the men who attacked him have been roaming in the community.

Meanwhile Joy News has gathered the police have increased their patrol in the area because of the spate of attacks.

When the reporter visited the Kokrobite police station, he saw a white 4x4 vehicle which the police said is being used by some operatives from the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) to apprehend perpetrators.
