Nyakrom Siddiq SHS cries for urgent assistance

Agona Nyakrom, (C\R), June 13, GNA - The Authorities of the Nyakrom SIDDIQ Senior High School (SHS) have expressed concern about the inadequate infrastructure and other logistics, a situation that was negatively affecting effective teaching and learning.

Mr Zakaru Zunrain, Assistant Headmaster of the school expressed the concern when Mrs Cynthia Morrison, the MP for Agona west visited the school to acquaint herself with challenges facing the school at Nyakrom.

According to the Assistant Headmaster, the school was currently facing numerous challenges which needed to be salvaged by the Ministry of Education, Agona West Assembly, Corporate bodies and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).

He said the school had boarding facility for only boys, while girls were in rental premises which posed threat to effective supervision by house Tutors.

Mr Zunurain said philanthropists were helping to pay rent for the girls as parents of the girls cannot afford to pay.

He said due to lack of transport, the authorities found it extremely difficult to send any student who fell sick to any health facility, adding that 'when the need arises the bursar's private car is used to transport the sick students to health facilities.

The Assistant Headmaster said formerly SIDDIQ SHS was purely ran on benevolence but, since the government absorbed it, various supports had abated.

He said although the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) through their contributions had constructed an assembly hall, but were yet to floor the ground and fix windows due to financial difficulties.

The Assistant Headmaster appealed to the government, corporate bodies, financial institutions, Agona West Assembly and others to help construct girls' dormitory and classrooms to promote quality education.

He said the road to the school was awarded on contract in 2012, but was abandoned and commenced again in 2016 and the contractor had left the site for over one year.

The MP assured the authorities the challenges of the school would communicated to the Ministry of Education and other relevant agencies to ensure the provision of infrastructural development to enhance effective teaching and learning.

She said the government under President Nana Akufo-Addo had prioritised education hence the introduction of free senior High School policy to enable Ghanaian students to have access to secondary education.
