Man jailed five years over sexual abuse of imbecile

Juaso (Ash), June 14, GNA - The Juaso Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Fredrick Tetteh, has sentenced an illegal miner to five years imprisonment in hard labour for sexually abusing an imbecile.

Kwaku Okine, 24, pleaded guilty to the offence.
Police Detective Chief Inspector Birikorang Peasah told the court that the incident happened on Monday, June 05, at Nyaboe in the Asante-Akim Central Municipality.

The victim had been sent to a house about 200 metres away from where she lives at about 1720 hours by the grandmother.

On her way, she met the convict who convinced her to come with him to his house to assist prepare 'fufu'.

After waiting for hours with no sign of the girl returning, the grandmother and other relatives began looking for her but without success.

She later caused an announcement to be made at the local information centre and a formal report was also made to the police at Konongo.

The prosecution said the victim after three days returned home and informed the grandmother that she was held in a room and subjected to bouts of sex by the convict.

Okine was arrested and admitted the offence in his caution statement.
