On Saturday, 10th June, the auditorium of the Knutsford University College experienced the height of excitement as Early Bird JHS and Methodist Girls SHS (MEGHIS) were declared winners of the Social Enterprise Business (SEB) and Socially Responsible Business (SRB) categories respectively, for the 2017 SAGE National Entrepreneurship Competition. This year’s competition came on with a lot of heat, as 14 out of 20 qualified teams participated in the finals, 6 teams competing in SRB and 8 teams in the SEB categories.

MEGHIS made an impressive presentation on its recycling business, showcasing its innovative products ranging from books, clothes, bags and furniture made from car tyres, amongst others. Their grand debut earned them the 1st position in the SRB category and the overall best team to represent Ghana at the World Cup in Ukraine in August. This makes MEGHIS the first girls winning team in SAGE Ghana Cup. MEGHIS also won a contract to supply products to an investor, and a free ICT training from Soronko Academy to help them learn coding and website development amongst others.

Early Bird JHS who were the reigning champions for both SEB and SRB categories, won 2nd position in SRB category, losing the first position to MEGHIS. They however retained their position as winners in the SEB category, with an excellent presentation on SaveSense Initiative- a student savings project that integrates with the bank. They thus qualify as the second option to represent Ghana at the SAGE World Cup in Ukraine in August. Early Bird remains the only Junior High School that has won the SAGE National Cup, competing with Senior High Schools.
