NUGS Brouhaha: SRC Presidents Call For Truce Between Feuding Factions
08.06.2017 LISTEN

Presidents of some Students Representative Councils of some Universities in the country have called on the two feuding factions calling themselves NUGS Executives to come to the negotiation table to foster unity at the students front.

In a statement signed by about 11 SRC Presidents, the presidents calling themselves NUGS Reconciliation Committee said "Anything called a problem has a solution and the solution has always lied in the medium through which the problems were created."

The statement added that "A generation saw the need to establish NUGS as a strong students front to advocate for the Ghanaian students. And our generation must, if not improving it, maintain the relevance of the union."

The SRC Presidents have therefore advised "that those who have become the union contractors, consultants, godfathers should contribute positively to the survival of the union rather than destroying it. It is hereby reiterated that apportioning of blames, insults, Whatsapp pandemonium and others have never been a solution to any problem. We shall salvage our union - we are the solution we seek."

It would be recalled that venue for hosting of congress by the mother student union of the country last year led to the split of the union with one faction led by Mr. Luqman Abubakari having the congress at Ideal College, Madina-Accra and the other led by Mr. Julian M. Cobbina organising theirs at St. Francis College of Education, Hohoe leading to a parallel NUGS officers operating in the country.

This compelled one group to put the case before an Accra High Court for which the litigation has travelled for some months now.

However, the SRC presidents "in our capacities as the main stakeholders and interested parties, we have taken upon ourselves to salvage our union. Whether this will require reconciliation of all parties, putting an end to all litigation or causing interested groups to stay away from the union, we are ready to do it. We have the power to salvage our union and hence we shall utilize the power."

Below is the full Statement signed by the 11 SRC Presidents.

šŸ“šTHE NUGS RECONCILIATION COMMITTEEšŸ“š
6TH MAY, 2017
WE HAVE COME TO SALVAGE OUR UNION
Anything called a problem has a solution and the solution has always lied in the medium through which the problems were created. In recent times, our union, NUGS, has become nothing but a partisan- politico platform. Even though this problem may somewhat seem insurmountable we believe that we owe it as a duty to restore unity and sanity to our union and revive it.

A generation saw the need to establish NUGS as a strong students front to advocate for the Ghanaian students. And our generation must, if not improving it, maintain the relevance of the union.

In our capacities as the main stakeholders and interested parties, we have taken upon ourselves to salvage our union. Whether this will require reconciliation of all parties, putting an end to all litigation or causing interested groups to stay away from the union, we are ready to do it. We have the power to salvage our union and hence we shall utilize the power.

We strongly advise that those who have become the union contractors, consultants, godfathers should contribute positively to the survival of the union rather than destroying it. It is hereby reiterated that apportioning of blames, insults, Whatsapp pandemonium and others have never been a solution to any problem. We shall salvage our union - we are the solution we seek.

We hereby advise also that all cooperation that may be incidental to the salvage of our union will be required. However, any form of display of mischief, hardcore, unwillingness and pride would be discounted and overlooked.

Therefore, we the SRC presidents would want to bring together all parties to salvage NUGS. We entreat all and sundry to join hands with us to bring unity and lasting peace to this noble union. The Ghanaian students look up to us and we cannot afford to fail them.

Remember "it is here we stand, it is here we fight, it is here we win".

God bless our struggle even as we take solace in (Exodus 14:14).
