Kumasi, June 06, GNA - The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has scaled up the effort to get everybody to take responsibility for the natural environment.

Mr. Samuel Oteng, the Ashanti Regional Director, said it was combining awareness creation to bring all on board and enforcement of the law to ensure that the rights things were done.

He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that they had been working with civil society organizations, the Ghana Education Service (GES) and other bodies to help people to appreciate the need to protect the environment.

He indicated that progress was being made as many were beginning to recognize and find space to contribute to the fight to stop the reckless destruction of the vegetation and pollution of the air and water bodies.

Mr. Oteng said people were now voluntarily reporting environmental degradation activities to the EPA for action.

The Agency in recent times had been receiving complaints relating to wrong siting of gas stations, poor waste management practices and unsafe handling of hazardous chemicals.

That, he said, was a refreshing development and asked that, the trend continued.

He underlined the determination of the Agency to go the extra mile to make sure that the environment was safe and clean.

Businesses, he added, would have to see to it that their activities did not negatively impacted the environment.
