Community 18 residents insecure because of robberies

Tema, June 1, GNA - Residents of Community 18 and its environs in the Tema Metropolis are living in fear due to the increase in armed robberies in the area.

Some residents told the Ghana News Agency that even though the community has a police station, it has not deterred armed robbers from attacking and robbing them of their possessions.

They therefore called on the Police to up their game in their area as the sophistication at which the robbers operated was making them insure in their homes.

They observed that even though the police patrol the area, the robbers outsmart the officers by studying their movements and moving to the houses that have been left unattended.

According to the residents, to augment the efforts of the Police and ensure their security, the have resorted to hiring of private security officers and use of guard dogs.

Mr Atsu Holy Hodedzi, a private security man, noted that apart from the robberies, some unknown persons also break into residents' homes and steal their belongings when they were away from home.

Mr Hodedzi recounted how his landlady's properties where stolen by thieves when she was away at work leading to his employment.

Mr John Naami, a resident, reiterated the need for government to properly equip the police station in the area to enable them patrol the entire area and bring to book thieves and armed robbers operating the area.

Mr Naami also narrated how such persons made away with his laptop, digital camera, phones and other personal effects while he and his family were at church on a Sunday morning.
