Kumasi, June 01, GNA - The Ghana Education Service (GES) has underlined its determination to ensure effective supervision of schools to improve classroom performance.

Mr. Alex Atta Asante, the Kumasi Metropolitan Education Director, said it would also continue to work closely with all stakeholders including NGOs to ensure that, there was quality at all levels.

He said this in an address read for him at a durbar organized for school girls selected from junior and senior high schools in the metropolis.

It formed part of activities making this year's global menstrual hygiene day celebration and was organized by Lives of Girls Foundation International (TLGFI) together with the GES and Becca Hearts - an NGO.

The durbar provided the platform to sensitize the adolescent school girls on the importance of good personal hygiene, especially during menstruation.

Mr Asante commended the Foundation for the initiative and said the involvement of the GES and teachers in the campaign was most appropriate.

This was because of the vital role teachers had been playing - imparting knowledge and shaping the lives of school children.

He spoke of the high value placed on girls-education by the GES and said this was underscored by the policy, which allowed pregnant school girls to continue their education after delivery.

He counseled them against doing anything likely to ruin their future, adding that, they should have role models and be inspired by their achievements and work hard to live their dreams.

Mrs. Juliana Nyame, Chief Executive Officer of Global Cervical Charity Foundation, said good personal hygiene during menstruation was the way forward to prevent vaginal infections and diseases.

She advised the girls desist from the use of any unhygienic material to clean themselves during menstruation.

Ms. Akua Adutwumwaa, Chief Executive of TLGFI, said it was important that young girls became aware of good personal hygiene and assisted to do what was safe.

The campaign was to complement the effort of teachers - educating girls to know more about the dynamics in their body and the appropriate things to do to prevent diseases.
