Tema, Ningo-Prampram ready for 2017 BECE

Tema, June 1, GNA - The Education Directorates for the Tema Metropolis and the Ningo-Prampram District have completed preparation for the smooth take off of the 2017 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) on Monday.

Public Relations Officers for the two directorates told the Ghana News Agency that examinations materials and centres to be used for the exams were ready.

Supervisors and invigilators for the exams have also received the needed training while candidates have been taken through the 'dos' and 'don'ts' of the BECE.

Mr Azeriya Ayeriga, Public Relations Officer for the Tema Metropolitan Education Directorate, said his outfit organized a mock examination for the candidates to be conversant with the examinations and help boost their confident.

Mr Ayeriga added that the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) had also agreed to allocate some vehicles and fuel to the directorate to enable the smooth distribution of exams materials to the centre when it commenced.

Mr Raymond Akadi, Ningo-Prampram District Education Public Relations Officer, said supervisors for the examinations on Thursday, sorted the examinations materials.

Mr Akadi indicated that his outfit had arranged with the Health Directorate to provide nurses at the centres to give health care to candidates who might need it

He reminded candidates to stick to the rules of the examination mentioning some of the malpractices as carrying of foreign materials to exams halls, tearing of question and answering sheets, misappropriating of items belonging to other candidates.

He advised teachers to stay away from the exams centres as that was against the BECE rules.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,889 candidates would sit for the exams in the Ningo-Prampram District at eight centres.

Out of the total candidates, one boy of the Mateheko D.A. Basic 'B' is physically challenged and uses a wheel chair.

Mr Akadi said the Special Education Coordinator for the District was in charge of him and had put in measures to ensure his easy movement at his designated centre.

The 25 centres in the Tema Metropolis would have 7,183 registered candidates comprising of 3,520 boys and 3,663 girls.

A total of 25 supervisors, 24 assistant supervisors and 250 invigilators would conduct the examinations in the Metropolis.

Pupils from the Tetteh Ocloo State School for the Deaf would write the exams at their campus at Adjei-Kojo and are expected to be given extra time to write their papers.
