Freely You Have Received; Freely Give - The Church and Money

Freely You Have Received; Freely Give - The Church and Money

Religion plays a very pivotal role in our lives as it shapes our behavior, values and other orientation of social life.

It is very interesting to see how people exalt their faith. People always express some sense of eagerness to want to go to church to worship God and find everlasting solutions to their problems.

It is therefore not surprising to see an increasing number of churches in the country. Arguably, the church has become the hub of business center for many pastors in the country.

Some men of God clearly resort to the tactics of extorting money from their congregants because of the gullible nature of these church members. Buying and selling most often than not is seen at the market or mini shops, but what we see today in our churches is akin to transacting a business. The sale of Anointing oils virtually is seen at all churches for the sole purpose of redeeming people from their predicament.

In Mathew 10:8, the Lord Jesus says “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.”

However, the diabolical attitude of many self-acclaimed men of God makes many wonders what the above scripture actually mean.

It is high time Christians took the study of Scriptures serious just like the Berean Christians did in Acts 17:11. “Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” They critically examined the scriptures in order not to fall into the traps of these false, unemployed prophets.

“My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge…..” Hosea 4: 6
