Mahamas Lynching Was Premeditated—Atik
01.06.2017 LISTEN

The lynching of Captain Maxwell Mahama on Monday May 29 by some irate youth of Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region on suspicion that he was an armed robber was planned, Atik Mohammed, General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has said.

According to him, accounts emerging from the incident indicate that he was not killed through mistaken identity as was reported initially.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Krokokoo on Thursday June 1, Mr Atik said: “My view is that the action was premeditated, it was deliberate. The people sat and planned and they executed it perfectly.

“Because when you listen to the sequence of events, it couldn’t have been a coincidence, it couldn’t have been an accident that they mistook him for an armed robber and so they killed him.

“The initial reports that came were to the effect that he was killed on the basis of mistaken identity, but I don’t see it that way. I have come to the conclusion that the murder was premeditated because of the narrations that are coming and the events unfolding. They planned to eliminate him and indeed they executed it.”

Meanwhile, the police have picked up six persons suspected to have engaged in the gruesome act and will soon be put before court.
