A Six (6) member committee has been inaugurated in Obuasi to oversee the smooth implementation of the Government’s flagship program PLANTING FOR FOOD AND JOBS. The committee under the chairmanship of the Municipal Chief Executive has the Municipal Coordinating Director, Municipal Planning Officer, Municipal Director of Agriculture, a representative from the Farmers group and the Chairman of the Agric subcommittee was inaugurated at a special General Assembly meeting of the Assembly on Wednesday, 31st May, 2017.

About hundred (100) farmers in the Municipality are expected to benefit from the PLANTING FOR FOOD AND JOBS programme which is expected to be piloted this year. Maize, rice and vegetables are supposed to be planted with Agric officers employed to assist farmers involved in this programme.

In a related development, the Assembly also re-constituted members of the various sub-committees in accordance with the new Local Government Act, ACT 936. The subcommittees consisted of the Finance and Administration Sub-committee, Justice and Security Sub-committee, Works Sub-committee, Social Services Sub-committee, Environmental Subcommittee and the Public Relations and Complaints Sub-committee.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Honorable Elijah Adansi Bonah in his remarks to the Assembly promised to make construction and repair of deplorable roads in the Municipality his topmost priority. He also assured members of the Assembly that the Obuasi Municipal Assembly Office complex which has not seen any major face lift for a long time would be attended to.

On the newly constituted committee for the PLANTING FOR FOOD AND JOBS, Honorable Adansi Bonah said the committee will work assiduously to ensure that it achieve its target and called for the total support of all the Assembly members.
