The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a fraudster who defrauds residents in Kumasi, collecting various sums of money to assist them acquire jobs.

DCOP Ken Yeboah, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, in a press briefing, explained that,

on Tuesday 23rd May 2017, at about 4:00p.m., a suspect, George Lovia, 47 years, alias Nana Yaw, at Santasi Anyinam, a suburb of Kumasi, was arrested for swindling a number of unsuspecting members of the public off various sums of money, under the pretext of securing them with visas, and government appointment contracts in some government institutions.

According to him, suspect George Kobiah is reported to have used the office of the Ashanti Regional Minister and the Def to use Minister, purportedly, to use their influence in the government to secure them the aforementioned jobs.

He said George Kobiah managed to collect various sums of monies between the amounts of GH¢4,000 from those unsuspecting persons, but failed to honour his promise, and went into hiding until his arrest.

He stated that when interrogated during police investigations the suspect could not show any proof of his contacts with these government officials, neither did he prove any evidence of paying any monies to any government official.

He disclosed that during a search in his residence, a total of 37 application letters with CVs and result slips applying for Ambassadorial, Municipal/District Chief Executive positions and other positions at the Flag Staff House, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and government agencies, were found in his room.

He said the suspect is in custody assisting in investigations. He, therefore, appealled to the general public, especially persons who have fallen victim to his activities, to come to the Regional Headquarters, Adum, to assist in investigations.
