Tamale, May 29, GNA - Key focal persons of social justice institutions in the Northern Region have been trained to understand comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for young people.

The two-day capacity building training, which ended in Tamale, was to enable the social justice institutions to better address challenges young people faced in the areas of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and young people living with HIV in a youth friendly manner.

It was organised by Hope for Future Generations (HFFG), a non-governmental organisation, as part of the Get Up, Speak Out (GUSO) project.

The GUSO project, which is closely supervised by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, seeks to ensure that all young people (10 - 24 years) fully enjoyed their SRHR in productive, equal and healthy societies.

Institutions trained included; Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service (DOVVSU), Department of Community Development, Ghana Education Service, Ghana Health Service.

Madam Patricia Porekuu, Programmes Manager of HFFG said support groups would be formed to help address all barriers to young people's rights and support vulnerable young people in society.

Madam Porekuu called for sustained relationship between social justice institutions and implementors of the GUSO project to ensure success of the project.

Mr Inusah Iddrisu, Senior Public Education Officer/Investigator at the Northern Region office of CHRAJ encouraged all to report abuses against them to CHRAJ for redress.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr Emmanuel Holortu, Northern Regional Coordinator of DOVVSU called on influential people in society to stop interfering in cases involving SGBV to ensure that such cases were reported to lawful authority for investigations and prosecution.
