Uncompleted Projects Were In Green Book - MCE

Clement Nii Lamptey Wilkinson, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ga West, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of publishing uncompleted road projects as achievements in its Green Book prior to last year’s elections.

According to him, that decision was meant to deceive Ghanaians into believing that the then NDC government was delivering on its mandate for which it should be voted back into power

His comments follow remarks by the MP for Amasaman, Emmanuel Nii Laryea, that the current Akufo-Addo government has been partisan with regards to which roads projects to prioritise.

Mr Laryea, responding to a demonstration by some residents of Manhean at Amasaman on Monday May 29, said: “I remember last year a similar demonstration came up and so money was allocated for it in the 2014 budget. The contract was then awarded to a contractor.

“The contractor started the road from Manhean to Oduman Junction through to Ablekuma and other areas. But the contractor as at last year was owed some money and so he stopped the project. Then-President John Mahama promised to pay but he is out of office now and so what we expect from the current president is that he should continue the project for us. He must work and stop the partisanship he has demonstrated in the road sector.”

But also speaking on the same programme, Mr Wilkinson said: “This government is for the people and we know what is good for the people. At the end of the day we will construct the roads for them, that is what matters to us the most.

“If my brother Laryea is saying that this government has deliberately failed to construct the roads, I will tell him that the roads will be constructed for the people, but he should realise that the works of the previous government of which he was a member were not good enough. He put it in the NDC’s Green Book last year that the roads had been constructed and now he is running away. He should produce the roads that he claimed had been constructed.

“They stated it clearly in their Green Book that the NDC government had completed the roads in the municipality whereas we all knew the projects had not been delivered.”
