Odumase, May 26, GNA - The Assembly members of the Sunyani West District, on Friday confirmed Mr Martin Obeng, the President's nominee as the Sunyani West District Chief Executive.

The Assembly has in previous election, rejected the nominee as he could not obtained the two thirds of votes as required by the 1992 Constitution.

But in an election conducted and supervised by the Electoral Commission, Mr Obeng secured 49 votes representing 90.7 per cent of 54 valid votes at Odumase amidst heavy security presence.

Prior to voting, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, My Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, and Mr Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani East took turns to address the assembly members and entreated them to put personal interests aside and confirm the nominee.

The MP noted that the failure to endorse the President Nominee would retard progress on the district.

Mr Obeng thanked the assembly members for his confirmation and expressed appreciation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his nomination.

He asked for the support and co-operation from the assembly members to promote the development of the area and commended them for the high sense of political maturity they had demonstrated.

Mr Obeng asked the assembly members to work together and promote a united front in identifying and addressing the peculiar challenges of especially poverty and high illiteracy rates in the area.
